Beverly Shadburn – First Solo (8/27/11)

Beverly SoloEarly morning, 27 August 2011, Beverly Shadburn blasted off on runway 05 at GVL in her favorite Skyhawk C172, N21527, for her first solo flight.
Beverly, is a cool operator and is working on getting her fixed-wing to use with her own C182, “Annie”. Her instructor, Dave Wardlaw, is very happy
and proud of Beverly and her flying.

Colin Pace – Private Pilot Certficate (8/19/11)

Congratulations Colin! Your hard work paid off and now you have officially joined the pilot ranks. CFI David Gazda can not be more thrilled to see that temporary pilot certificate, best of wishes on your adventures with Embry Riddle and becoming a professional pilot!

Matt Kellar – Private Pilot Certificate (8/9/11)

MattWe are proud to announce one of the newest FAA-certified pilots in the USA, Mr. Matt Kellar. Matt came to us as a 16 year young man and over a course of time has worked very diligently with instructor Derek Metro to accomplish his dream of flying. Matt’s examiner said that his landings were some of the best he’s seen! Way to go Matt! Matt has a great future ahead of him and will be going to Tech later this month! Go Matt and great job!

Kevin Saunders – Instrument Rating (8/7/11)

Congrats Kevin Saunders for successfully completing his instrument
rating with examiner Randy Haralson on June 28th 2011. Under the
watchful eye of instructor David Gazda, Kevin through much sweat and
tears learned what it takes to become a proficient instrument pilot in
good weather or bad!

John Sommers – Private Pilot Certificate

We congratulate John Sommers for earning his Private Pilots Certificate in record time. John was on an accelerated summer training schedule and was able to complete his pilot training before leaving for the Great State of Alabama and Auburn University. His instructor, Chuck Padgett, says, “He has done an outstanding job of keeping focused and staying on a very aggressive schedule”. Congratulations John!

John Sommers – First Solo

Please join me and all the other staff here at Lanier Flight Center, KGVL and congratulate John Sommer’s for his first solo flight which he completed in record time on July 21,2011.  John is on an accelerated summer training schedule to complete his private pilot training before he leaves for the Great State of Alabama and Auburn University on Aug 10, 2011.  His instructor, Chuck Padgett, says, “…John has been flying at least once, and most of the time twice, a day every day of the week since he started training on June 21, 2011.  He has done an outstanding job of keeping focused and staying on a very aggressive schedule”.

Derek Hirsch – First Solo

Props to Derek Hirsch!! On August 1st, Derek soloed at PDK airport with Ryan Kowalski as his instructor. Here is what Ryan has to say about this wonderful young pilot:

Tom Graddy – First Solo

DSCN0156On July 22, Tom Graddy conducted his first solo at Fulton County Airport!! He had 4 landings on runway 26 and flew right and left patterns. Thanks to “County Tower” for their service and support. His instructor Joe Lanier and all of us here at Lanier Flight Center are very proud of him!
