Derek Metro – Chief Flight Instructor
Derek Metro is Lanier Flight Centers Chief Flight Instructor. Derek has his Commercial, CFI, CFII, and A & P.
Derek started flying remote controlled airplanes when he was 14. Then a friend took him for a ride in a Cessna 150. Right then he knew he wanted to be a pilot. He went on to get his Private Pilot at 18 and later a B.S degree in Aviation Maintenance Management from San Jose State University.
In addition to his Flight Instructor ratings he also holds an Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic Certificate. Derek has been instructing since 1993 including 10 years as a full-time flight instructor in the San Francisco Bay area and more recently part-time in Wisconsin. Over 90% of his students pass the checkride on the first try.
He loves flying and teaching, is very much a people person, and loves to see people progress and learn to do something as cool as flying an airplane. He teaches full time at Lanier Flight Center and is available Monday through Friday. In his role as Chief Flight Instructor Derek also performs a variety of instructor team leadership activities including very important work on our FAA Part 141 Application.
