The sport pilot certificate is ideal for recreational flying in Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) category of aircraft which are smaller, lower-powered aircraft. If you’re working towards a career as a pilot, you’ll need your commercial certificate. This gives you the ability to fly for hire and carry passengers/cargo for hire in certain situations. In your training, you fine tune everything you learned in your private pilot training and become a confident, safe pilot worthy of carrying passengers.
As a pilot working towards an aviation career, you’ll need lots of multiengine flight time. The multiengine rating will not take long if you’ve already got your private pilot’s license, usually somewhere around 10 hours plus checkride.
