On Friday, April 19, members of the Lanier Flight Center Flying Club experienced a behind the scenes look at Air Traffic Control at the busiest airport in the world, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.  From the vantage point of the tower, club members admired the artistry of the controllers who managed the arrivals and departures with the deftness required of their trade.  Though advanced technology was everywhere, it was evident that it was the human factor that ensured the safety and coordination of the skies and the ground.  Tour coordinator and Flying Club member, Jim Flock summed-up the encounter.  “It was a typical IFR day which had Departures backed up 10-15 deep from the hold short line.  ATC handled it well.  While most of us (in General Aviation) may never talk to Hartsfield ATC, it was truly amazing to watch how they kept the traffic flowing.  I think it’s safe to say we have a new-found respect for Atlanta ATC.”
