IT’S GROUND SCHOOL TIME!

This month, Lanier Flight Center is launching a full array of aviation courses.  From Co-Pilot Workshops to Instrument Rating Ground School, there is something for everyone.  And for your convenience, all of the courses are being offered at both KGVL and KPDK.  All four course offerings, brief descriptions, prices, dates, and times are listed below.

COPILOT COURSE WORKSHOP 

This course designed for the right-seat flyer!  This unique classroom experience was created for the non-pilot who would like to have more knowledge about flying an airplane.  If you’re a spouse, sibling, parent, or friend of someone who has a pilot’s certificate and find yourself in the sky from time to time, this course is for YOU!   This workshop consists of two 2-hour classes for only $59:

GVL – Tues, Jan 15, 6pm-8pm; Sat, Jan 19, 9am-11am
PDK – Tues, Jan 22, 6pm-8pm; Sat, Jan 26, 9am-11am

Here’s what we’ll be covering:

  • Parts of an Airplane / Preflight Checks on an Airplane
  • Radio Communication Basics
  • Airports, Signs, and Runways
  • Various Regulations
  • What makes a wing fly?  What is a stall?
  • More about radio communications (listening to radio calls to help your pilot).
  • Checking the weather.  Helping your pilot with the “go/ no-go” decision.  Aviation Weather basics (winds, ceilings, visibilities) (METARs/TAFs).
  • Traffic checks – collision avoidance, looking at 2 o’clock, 3 mi, same altitude.
  • Filing a flight plan.
  • More about airports, signage, and layouts.
  • Basics about airspace and charts.
  • More on regulations.
  • Brief rundown on emergencies.

IFR REFRESHER WORKSHOP 

Calling all VFR pilots!  Refresh your knowledge and deepen your understanding of IFR flying, regulations, publications and procedures.  This workshop consists of one 3-hour class for only $49.

GVL – Thurs, Jan 24, 6pm-9pm
PDK – Thurs, Jan 17, 6pm-9pm

PRIVATE PILOT GROUND SCHOOL 

Student Pilots, join us for the aviation knowledge you need to pass your FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Written and Oral Exams.  Seasoned Pilots, active or inactive, come for a refresher on the latest aeronautical knowledge and information.  Wherever you are on your aviation journey, our Private Pilot Ground School course is for you!  This class meets once a week for twelve weeks and is only $349:

GVL – Thurs, Jan 31, 6-8:30pm
PDK – Tues, Jan 29, 6-8:30pm
