Today we celebrated the life and legacy of our beloved Kelly Chandler. Several of Kelly’s family members participated in our Open House, and, along with friends of Lanier Flight Center, made this event our best ever. The EAA Chapter 611 gifted us with a perfect Missing Man Formation flyover, and fellow community businesses, Singleton Marine Group, Gainesville Motorsports, and Select Helicopters represented a wide array of exciting options for living life to the fullest. Kelly would have loved it! FAA AME Atlanta Acute Care and the Riverside Military Academy Color Guard contributed focuses on health and patriotism which were both important to Kelly, as well.
Looking around at the crowd as Kelly’s wife, Jackie, announced the launch of the Kelly Chandler Wings Scholarship, it was apparent that this was about more than an open house or a scholarship. This was all of us whose lives Kelly had touched looking to each other, consoling and encouraging, and realizing that while we will never be the same, we will make it together. And that is what he would want.
Our Kelly’s light, laughter, and love of people is still teaching us the importance of living each day to the fullest and going after each goal with no regrets. And, it is in this way, we are honored to announce the scholarship in his name and invite you to become a part of the LEGACY OF AWESOME.
If you or someone you know is interested in learning to fly, please take a look at the attached files and submit your application and materials per the information in the guidelines.
Donations to the scholarship fund will be accepted through August 31, 2015, which is also the deadline for submitting applications for consideration by the scholarship committee. Please make checks payable to the Kelly Chandler Wings Scholarship and mail them to:
